Biography
As a postdoctoral researcher in the Organisational Behaviour research group and part of the interdisciplinary SCOOP research programme, Esmee Veenstra studies how to foster shared responsibility and collective action to address complex societal challenges. Her research examines ways in which moral appeals can inspire dedicated collaboration, rather than leading to resistance or disengagement.
Building on her PhD research into corporate social responsibility and sustainable value creation, she currently explores how rethinking responsibility as a shared and empowering process can strengthen societal resilience. By focusing on fostering intrinsic motivation—driven by shared identity, mutual trust, and internalised group norms—she is working on developing strategies that promote long-term cooperation and constructive social engagement.
Through this research, she aims to bridge theoretical insights and practical solutions. Her goal is to develop evidence-based tools for implementing impactful behavioural change interventions, supporting policymakers, organisations, and communities to collaboratively address societal challenges and advance sustainable change.
