Marcel Lubbers featured in de Volkskrant’s “cabinet of scientists”
In recognition for his expertise in the field of immigrant integration, SCOOP Fellow Marcel Lubbers has been featured in de Volkskrant’s “cabinet of scientists” (behind paywall).
In the leadup to the 2025 Netherlands election, de Volkskrant has put together a cabinet of scientists to offer solutions to the country’s pressing problems.
Appointed “Minister for Asylum and Migration,” Marcel was asked what his policy plan would be if he were a politician. He wrote that what the Netherlands needs is more money for refugee policy, building more structured and small-scale reception facilities, and having wealthier and left-leaning neighbourhoods welcome new migrants.
Marcel is quoted in the article saying that science is needed to answer societal questions ‘Not because it’s my political opinion… But because there are scientific answers to the goals that politics sets.’
Congratulations Marcel, and let us hope that the next Cabinet follows your advice.
