Liesbet Heyse and Nina Hansen co-create toolbox to help refugees find meaningful work
SCOOP is proud to announce the launch of RuimBaan for Status Holders, a training toolbox to help refugees find sustainable, suitable, and meaningful work in the Netherlands. Alongside SCOOP Fellows Liesbet Heyse and Nina Hansen, RuimBaan was developed by University of Groningen researchers Sanne Hiemstra and Marjolein Boendermaker – along with local refugee newcomers and the municipality.
RuimBaan (which means, “making way for refugees”) is a set of tools and training courses developed to help employers recruit more diversely. It is designed to assist refugees who want to integrate in the Netherlands but need help finding their way, by educating municipal professionals - who assist in making job matches - on cultural differences, alternative recruitment strategies, appropriate workplace language, and successful onboarding.
Liesbet and Nina’s project has also been featured in regional newspaper Dagblad van het Noordern, in an article entitled “Heba (38) uit Veendam heeft Syrische vrienden in heel Europa. ‘Nergens is het zo moeilijk om te werken als hier in Nederland". You can read more about their project, and the refugee status holders involved, here.
