KNAW appoints Lisa Herzog and Elise van Nederveen Meerkerk as new members

SCOOP is very proud to announce that two of our Fellows, Professors Lisa Herzog (University of Groningen) and Elise van Nederveen Meerkerk (Utrecht University), have been appointed as new members of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). Selected alongside another fifteen scientists, Lisa and Elise were appointed in recognition not just of the excellence of their research, but to their contribution to society. KNAW membership is for life.

Lisa Herzog is Professor of Political Philosophy and Economics at the University of Groningen and Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy. Her research focuses on how knowledge is disseminated within society and what impact that has on democracy. She also investigates how moral and democratic values can be given a stronger role within the economy, and how organisations can be structured in a more humane and fairer way.

ElisevNederveenMeerkerk EvR 0098 resizedElise van Nederveen Meerkerk is Professor of Econimic and Social History at Utrecht University, researching the value of women's work. Her research on topics such as industry, sex work, and work in the home shows how crucial women have always been to the way society functions. Her focus is explicitly not limited to the Netherlands; she also positions her analyses in an international or colonial context.

Our warmest congratulations to Lisa and Elise! You can read more about their appointment to KNAW here.
