New article from Fabian Corver on explaining collective agency

Congratulations to SCOOP PhD researcher Fabian Corver on his new article!

In “Explaining collective agency: A defense of internalist corporate interpretivism,” published in The Philosophical Quarterly, Fabian challenges the widely-accepted philosophical idea that to understand the actions of collective groups, researchers need only observe what they do from the outside. This “black box” approach has suggested that we don’t need to look inside of a group to explain its actions. But Fabian argues that to properly understand organized collectives and its intentions, we need to look inside the black box at individuals. By investigating what individual members of collective groups are doing behind the scenes, we can better grasp a group’s goals. Fabian’s research could have implications for how we analyse different collective entities, from political movements to corporations.
