Pearl Dykstra is Professor of Empirical Sociology at Erasmus University Rotterdam since 2009. Before 2009, she was Professor of Kinship Demography at Utrecht University, and Senior Scientist at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute in The Hague. Dykstra is an internationally appraised specialist on demographic change, changes in family constellations, and intergenerational solidarity. She acquired funding for a number of large-scale projects, such as the Netherlands Kinship Panel Study (NWO Large Investments 2002-2014), EU 7th framework programs MULTILINKS (2008-2011), Changing Families and Sustainable Societies (2013-2017), and Families In Context (ERC-Advanced Grant 2012). She was elected member (2004) and vice president (2011) of the KNAW, and fellow of the Gerontological Society of America (2010). She was elected into the High Level Group of Scientific Advisors for the European Committee in 2015.
